ACMC 2023 : Conflict and Context
Call for Submissions
Calling all arts and culture students and emerging professionals around the world: the ACMC 2023 call for applications is now open!
The 6th edition of the Arts and Cultural Management Conference (ACMC) will take place between 27 and 29 September 2023. This year, the ACMC is hosted by the Central European University in Vienna, and organised in collaboration with C’Man, an international project responding to current challenges of the Cultural and Creative Sectors by providing relevant training opportunities in Cultural Management.
Under the title Conflict and Context, we want to explore where arts and culture fit within conflict narratives, how art influences and can be influenced by conflict and its respective social, economic, political or cultural contexts.
Some of the questions we want to address:
- What is the role of arts and culture in finding or bringing about change, social discourse, cohesion, and cultural exchange?
- How may art challenge the status quo?
- How has the fine line between art and propaganda been blurred?
- How are art and culture being used and manipulated in order to drive oppressive conflict narratives?
The possibilities and permutations of conflict and context in relation to art are limitless, and it is these possibilities we aim to dissect and discover during our 3-day conference.
We humbly invite you to contribute to the underlying calling of our conference by submitting research papers and proposals addressing the impact of arts and culture related to the question of context and/or of conflict narratives.
Eligibility criteria:
- students, emerging researchers, artists or professionals from an art and culture-related field
- applicants must submit an abstract or short project/initiative description
- selected applicants should be able to travel to Vienna between 27 and 29 September 2023, in order to attend in person
- selected applicants will be invited to present their work in dedicated sessions during the conference.
This call is open for emerging researchers and professionals in the arts and culture field. Research papers, projects within the EU and internationally, initiatives and artistic performances related to the topic are all welcome for participation. Selected applicants will be invited to present their work at the ACMC conference taking place in Vienna this upcoming autumn.
